Basic Human Religion 9/16

Universal concepts of religion: tradition following some sort of deity. Involves sacred space, rituals, and prayer.

What makes space sacred: water, crosses, structures, stones, temples, statues.

Compare two death rituals: Islamic and Jewish. Islamic death rituals and Jewish death rituals are actually quite similar. Both ceremonies include bathing the body, wrapping it in white cloth, and burying it in a grave. The only difference is that the Islamic dead are buried facing Mecca.

The shamans in our culture are the healers, the doctors, and psychiatrists, the teachers, and the religious figures in our society.
